Elon Musk’s latest project: The Hyperloop Train can revolutionize traveling as we know it. Imagine a situation where you can travel to London from Italy in just 20 minutes. Sound like a fantasy to you? Elon Musk begs to differ. The Hyperloop is the brain child of the CEO and CTO of SpaceX which involves reduced pressure tubes in which a pressurized capsule rides on a cushion of air and is propelled by linear induction motors and compressors. Called, the Hyperloop One, testing of its feasibility has only recently begun.
What is Hyperloop?
The technology used for Hyperloop is simply a revolution of one of a kind. According to the official website (for link check bottom of this post) “Hyperloop is the fifth mode of transportation. It will allow the world to transport people and goods inexpensively, safely, and at speeds never thought possible”. Scientists believe that the Hyperloop would achieve a top speed of up to 760 mph which is almost 1200 km/h, an incredible feat if there ever was one.
So let us take a look at the Facts why Hyperloop is such an awesome technology and what Elon Musk’s creation is capable of.

2. History of the Hyperloop
The idea of people traveling bay train dates back a couple of centuries with the first steam locomotive moving at speeds which were then considered to be breakneck but which are now deemed excruciatingly slow. With this in mind, the idea of a tube as a means of transportation is within the reach of the public. The technology that has gone into making this concept a reality dates back to the 1960s and were based upon the government’s efforts to create a faster and more economically viable means of transportation.
3. Elon Musk is not the only One pursuing the Hyperloop dream
It is also important to note that the Hyperloop as a means of transportation is not the pursuit of Musk alone but that dozens of other scientists and students have poured hours into researching and developing a functionally viable model of the Hyperloop.
4. How the Hyperloop One Functions is still unknown
The Hyperloop is a low pressure tube within which there are capsules which are conveyed at both low and high speeds throughout the entire length of the tube. Cushioned on air, the capsules glide along with the help of pressurized air and aerodynamic lift. A magnetic linear accelerator provides the lift for the capsules and these are affixed at various stations on tubes of low pressure with rotors contained in each tube. Passengers then enter and exit the tube at the stations however what the air is thought to contain is unknown since the air we breathe would cause too much friction. There are rumors of a partial vacuum and the pod is thought to be 2 meters wide.
5. In which Routes will this be operating?
Potential routes are being worked out by the Warsaw University of Technology. A route starting from Cracow to Gdansk across Poland was proposed by Hyper Poland. In January, 2016, Delft Hyperloop put forward a route from Paris to Amsterdam.
6. Is this even Self-Sustainable?
Solar Panels will be used to line the Steel tubes that will store energy which would in turn power the air compressors that help to cushion the pods. The Hyperloop One should be able to function even under severe weather conditions.
7. Safety can be a matter of concern?
The high speeds of upto 800 mph would have a great bearing on human health and would be deemed safe only with the use of high quality materials and provided that the pods move in a straight line with no sudden loops or bends in its trajectory. Even though Musk has celebrated the safety factor of this mode of transportation, any treacherous twists and turns could spell disaster.
8. Musk’s Priorities: SpaceX and Tesla Motors Comes First
In spite of all the research that has gone into the materialization of the Hyperloop One, Musk desires that someone else should go ahead and build this revolutionary dream as he has his hands full with SpaceX and Testla as this would certainly require a lot more effort.
